Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers about wallet basics, networks, Web3 requests, security and staking concepts.
What is a wallet?
A wallet helps manage blockchain accounts, addresses and signing authority. It does not replace the underlying network.
Can I send my seed phrase to support?
No. Seed phrases and private keys should remain private, and imtoken staff will not ask for them.
Can the website recover a lost private key?
No. Recovery depends on whether the user safely preserved the corresponding seed phrase or backup.
Why verify the network before sending?
Similar address formats can appear across networks, while gas assets, chain state and token contracts remain separate.
What is gas?
Gas is the fee mechanism a blockchain uses to process transactions or contract calls, usually paid with the network’s native asset.
What is a transaction hash used for?
It identifies an on-chain transaction so you can review status, block inclusion, fees and confirmations in an explorer.
Does connecting to a DApp approve everything?
No. A connection establishes a session; signatures, transactions and token approvals should still be reviewed individually.
What is a message signature?
It proves that an account signed a particular message, but the requested content still needs to be understood before signing.
What is a token approval?
It can allow a specified contract to use a token within an allowance. Check the spender, scope and purpose.
What do EVM networks have in common?
They may share similar contract and address conventions, but chain IDs, gas, state and assets are still separate.
How does Layer 2 relate to mainnet?
Layer 2 systems process activity outside the base layer and settle or prove data back to it through specific mechanisms.
How can I spot phishing?
Use trusted entry points, inspect the domain and request details, and do not submit secrets because of urgency or reward claims.
Is public Wi-Fi safe for wallet actions?
It requires caution. Public networks can add fake-hotspot, interception and device-exposure risks.
Does Ethereum staking offer a fixed return?
No. Rewards can change with network conditions and protocol parameters, and participation carries technical and market risk.
Can validators be penalized?
Yes. Extended downtime or protocol violations can lead to network penalties.
Can an on-chain transaction be reversed?
Generally not by a wallet provider alone. Review the address, network, amount and approval before broadcasting.
What should I do with unused approvals?
Consider reviewing and revoking permissions you no longer need to reduce long-lived exposure.
